Liverpool win Premier League to end 30-year title drought

Pep Guardiola believes Liverpool's "incredible focus" on ending their 30-year title drought was the decisive factor in Jürgen Klopp's side ending Manchester City's reign as champions.

As the Chelsea game moved into stoppage time at an empty stadium in London, 350km away outside Anfield Liverpool fans began lighting red flares as the celebrations began in earnest.

It has been an agonising wait for Liverpool fans across the world, with the coronavirus hiatus forcing them to put the champagne on ice after the Premier League was suspended in March with Klopp's team two wins from the title. But this bad scenario did not come and Liverpool triumphed with the title.

On top of that, Liverpool has a chance to break Manchester City's record for the most points in a Premier League season.

Guardiola sent a "big congratulations" to Jürgen Klopp and his players after a game when City's big flaw this season - defensive shakiness - was exposed once again. This ended the title race in the favor of Liverpool, who still have seven matches to spare in the 2019-20 Premier League season.

The holders travel to Newcastle in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Sunday and hold a 2-1 lead over Real Madrid from the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie. Henderson told Liverpool's official website.

Ferdinand had threatened to go off Twitter if Liverpool won the title earlier in the day. It would have been unbelievable.

According to WhoScored, the France worldwide left-back took two shots which were not on target, played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 88.5%, took 66 touches, made one interception, and put in four crosses.

"It's a hard league to win, so well done to Jurgen (Klopp) and his players".

Despite social distancing rules and restrictions on public gatherings in place due to the pandemic, Liverpool supporters flocked to Anfield, turned the sky red with flares and sang the club's famous songs and chants.
